The National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM) belongs to the Area of Materials Science and Technology of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), the largest Public Research Organization in Spain. Since its foundation in 1963, CENIM has been at the forefront of metallurgical research. Initially it was oriented towards the provision of technological support to the Spanish iron and steel industry. It is currently a multidisciplinary Centre in Metallic Materials Science and Technology and its lines of research range from the design of new structural and functional metallic materials (steels, stainless steels, titanium, aluminium, magnesium, etc.), surface treatments and coatings (anodising, galvanising, chromating, phosphating, etc.), to the recycling of materials or procedures for industrial development; carried out by 14 research groups divided into three Scientific Departments and supported by different Scientific-Technical Service Units.
Requests for technical assistance from companies are coordinated by the Technical Assistance Office (OAT) of CENIM, which aims to respond with quality and speed using all the resources available in the center. The services offered by the OAT are all those demanded by companies in the CENIM’s area of specialization. Especially, requirements in subjects related to:
– Analysis of failures in service (mechanical or due to corrosion or wear)
– Quality control of a material or process
– Characterization (composition and/or properties) of metallic materials
– Consultancy in technological research projects
The CENIM is located on the CSIC Campus in the Ciudad Universitaria and belongs to the Campus of Excellence of Moncloa.
