En los últimos tiempos, los gemelos digitales (digital twins) se han convertido en una herramienta de gestión muy útil. Se trata de representaciones virtuales fidedignas de diferentes sistemas físicos, de forma que es posible interactuar sobre el mundo virtual para analizar qué pasaría en la realidad si ocurriera un cierto cambio.
Una fábrica, una ciudad, una cadena logística… cualquier actividad u objeto es susceptible de ser simulado con estos complejos modelos ideados en 2002 por Michael Grieves.
